Longmores raises much needed cash for Isabel Hospice
Generous clients and hardworking solicitors joined together to help make a difference to their local community and in doing so raised £3,490 for Isabel Hospice.
Longmores Solicitors, which has offices in Hertford and Harlow, supported Isabel Hospice’s annual Make a Will Week earlier this year.
The firm’s team of Private Client solicitors were kept busy writing or updating basic Wills free of charge, in return for a donation to Welwyn-based Isabel Hospice which supports people with life limiting conditions across East Hertfordshire.
Richard Horwood, a partner and Head of Longmores Private Client team, said: “This annual fundraising event is a cause dear to our hearts and we were pleased to be one of the top contributing solicitors in East Hertfordshire, helping to support the hospice’s vital work with patients and their families.”
Last year, Isabel Hospice cared for 1,316 patients and 2,379 family members. Their services are provided free of charge, at an annual cost of £4.5 million, of which £3 million needs to be raised from charitable sources.
The £3,490 donation was handed over to the charity’s Corporate Fundraising Manager, Elizabeth Laing, who presented Longmores with a certificate in recognition of their efforts. The money raised will make a huge difference to the hospice.
The cost of their specialist services includes:
- £29 for an hour’s nursing at their In-Patient Unit
- £45 for a therapy session
- £69 pays for a day session for a patient at their Day Service
- £126 for a home visit by one of their Clinical Nurse Specialists – a role carried out by Macmillan nurses in other areas of the country, but not provided in East Hertfordshire
Richard Horwood continued: “Make a Will events are always popular and we are extremely grateful to clients who dug deep to help this worthy cause.
“Writing or updating a Will in this way means people can help a charity and at the same time benefit from the peace of mind of knowing that their estates will be distributed amongst the correct beneficiaries after their deaths, whilst limiting any tax which otherwise might be a burden to their family."
For anyone who missed out on the Make a Will event earlier this year, there is another opportunity to make or update a Will free of charge this November, when Longmores participates in Will Aid.
The charity event, which runs during the entire month, supports a number of worthy causes including Age UK, NSPCC and British Red Cross. Longmores will once again waive their fee for straightforward Wills booked through the charity event website, with clients encouraged to make a donation.
